This will be an exciting day of pure Peer Support training and education, with a host of truly engaging speakers with a wealth of experience working with first responders and combat veterans challenged by mental health battles like PTSD. This one day training conference is TCOLE credit eligible.

William "Billy" Mitchell
“Concerns in Law Enforcement”

Officer Mitchell will cover the 5 most common mental health challenges that should be of concern to police peer leaders and chaplains, while addressing strategies of resiliency and response to such challenges. Discover why police agencies across Texas have been influenced by this fascinating presentation.

SPEAKER: Brian Simmons
“The Neurophysiology of the Stress Response”

EMDR is one of the most effective therapy choices for the mental health challenges that first responders face, but how and why does it work so well and how should a peer support leader present this information in a way that is simple to understand? Former police lieutenant and current EMDR therapist, Brian Simmons, will simplify the dynamics of EMDR in everyday language.

Lisa King
“Cognitive Processing Therapy and First Responders”

While many with PTSD spend their energy avoiding triggers and symptoms, Cognitive Processing Therapy involves facing it head-on in a controlled and effective way that defuses the power PTSD has over the mind. Lisa King will explain why CPT is mentioned by countless first responders as the therapy choice that made the most difference in their freedom and healing from PTSD.

William "Billy" Mitchell
“Peer Support Training for Start-ups and Existing Peer Teams”

Officer Mitchell will share years of experience in helping police and fire departments increase the effectiveness of any peer support outreach. From basic training of peer support startups to advanced strategies for existing ones, any department mental health outreach can benefit from this essential training.

Dr. Chuck Overstreet
“My Best Advice for Peers Helping Peers with PTSD”

Before PTSD became a household name, Dr. Chuck Overstreet was learning how to treat it in combat zones in the Middle East. He will share his best advice for peer support leaders on recognizing, understanding, and addressing this debilitating problem among first responders.
