WHY THE NEED FOR PEER SUPPORT BOOT CAMP?
Despite the fact that first responder peer support groups have been around for over 20 years, untreated mental health issues among first responders have only increased, along with higher addiction and suicide rates. Has peer support been a lost cause?

On the contrary, we believe those mental  health issues would be far worse without peer support along the way; however, we also feel that much of our research examining peer support the past 20 years tells us to focus less on what we might be doing wrong, and more about what we're not doing at all.

A DIFFERENT APPROACH TO PEER SUPPORT

Our peer support training curriculum covers so much more than just fundamental basics. Our research examines highly effective strategies and tools used in other mentally challenging professions, but most often absent from first responder culture.
Our focus is to better equip first responders to be more capable of helping themselves and their peers to become more resilient to mental injuries, and to recover faster when such injury occurs. In a perfect world, first responders would freely access mental health assistance available to them without fear of repercussion or loss of privacy, but most of us know the truth: that fewer than 10% of them on average who are disrupted by mental stress or injury will ever turn to professional help, even when career, marriage, or even life is on the line.

What are we doing then for the near 90% who are fighting their battles alone?

WHAT YOU LEARN AT PEER SUPPORT BOOT CAMP

Peer support is no replacement for a mental health professional or a department mental health program, but it is one of the most effective ways to fill the gap for those who suffer in silence and refuse to seek help beyond their peers. Our conferences and training programs are designed with this central fact in mind, and by attending or hosting one of these events, you will learn proven methods backed by decades of peer-reviewed published data and real world testimonies, including:
Self-assessment & Self-therapy tools every first responder should know
Methods of building resiliency against trauma
Starting a peer support program: step by step guide for any size department
Post-trauma growth & recovery: What to do now and what to do later
Best ways to talk to a peer about suicide, addiction, depression, etc.
Addressing marriage & family needs as a peer support leader
Common nutritional deficits in first responders that are easily solved
Reliable ways to qualify therapists/treatment centers for your resource list
Essential objectives and truths every peer support leader should remember
Understanding the best therapy options (EMDR, CPT, Equine Therapy, etc.)
How to counsel when you're not a counselor (and how not to)
Proper intervention methods and language for peer crisis response
Retirees: Creating mentally healthier exits and support beyond the badge
